The Perfect Sunday

I’ve had a very busy week, I met an instructor who is retiring and we walked along the Orewa Estuary together. I dropped a few flyers off in the Narrow Neck beach area before meeting a friend for an afternoon walk and we walked over the cliffs at Long Bay to Okura Estuary.  I caught up with some new Nordic Walkers who had finished their four week Introduction to Nordic Walking Class and gave details of our walking group and I hope to meet them on future walks. I still did all my administration work, had to pick up kids from school, take them to different activities and venues and rush back to cook dinner.

Today is Sunday; I’ve just taken North Shore Nordic Walkers to the Orewa Estuary this morning and what started as a dull and cold morning turned into a wonderful, sunny, hour and half walk.  We followed the walkway at Orewa and onto the path, meeting and sometimes stopping to chat to people passing by and wondering what the poles were for.

It always surprises me that people have never heard of Nordic Walking and, of course I stop and ooze enthusiasm and spout the benefits of using Nordic Walking poles.  It’s become quite a regular thing to be stopped; I always carry cards now and flyers to hand out when necessary.
This morning was one of those days when you stop and start, no sooner did I set off again before I was stopped by another walker or cyclist. The group walked way ahead of me and I was watching them, they all really enjoy the walks I plan for them, two new ladies came along  today, a lady that I thought I had lost contact with joined us again and they all chatted along and were for the best part of the walk oblivious to the curious looks people gave them as they passed.  Isn’t it great to be so preoccupied with what you enjoy and not to be limited by your self-consciousness?  They were striding out, strong and confident looking  awesome - some techniques mind you could have been improved a bit but hey - they were out there and having a ball.
After a hectic week it was good to go out and just chat and catch up with everyone with no time restraints and a coffee afterwards, I had a perfect Sunday morning!

Our thoughts are with all those who have been affected by the terrible tragedy in Japan, one of the many countries to help New Zealand in their time of need
