Walking Somewhere New

One of our regular walkers spotted a new location to try earlier in the week, so Thursday evening after our usual walk down at Long Bay we drove out to Albany Highway and onto Rosedale Park North, at Jack Hinton Drive.  Currently Rosedale Park is one of the best North Shore softball parks, and hosts national and international games.  We parked up on the other side of the park and decided to give it a try out at the weekend.
Rosedale Park's Noisy Sheep

Sunday I arranged for us to meet at 8.00 am at Jack Hinton Drive, it was pretty humid and looked like the weather may be wet, and only a few of us turned up to try out the new venue.  There were sheep alongside the car park that bleated loudly as we gathered our poles and strapped in, they followed us along the fence as we took the pathway into the park which is fairly small and it didn’t take us long to come out and cross over the road into Unsworth Heights. The path continues on via a boardwalk and eventually comes out near Unsworth Heights Park, that has been beautifully landscaped and hosts a collection of outdoor gym and sports equipment for public use, it’s a great facility we walked through admiring the new equipment and the pond that seemed home to several errant and noisy Pukeko.  Eventually we had to ask for directions and we found our way onto Caribbean Drive and made our way back to Albany via Rosedale Park.

We headed over to the Deli cafe on Rosedale Rd for a coffee and our chat, it was fairly quiet and we made quite a bit of racket, which is our usual post walk thing to do, in fact our usual cafe has said that they miss us when we’re not there on a Sunday!
A Happy Handful of North Shore Nordic Walkers

Walking on the Shore never ceases to amaze me, there are so many great venues to try out, a lot of them are fairly new or are undergoing redevelopment and I think that we’re very lucky to live in such a diverse area and that Auckland Council certainly excels at maintaining the pathways and bush for the keen walker and cyclists, and from the looks of it they are now bringing the gym to the public too, what a great idea!
